Nova Scotia Strong

Fear does not have a monopoly here.  And when we grieve, we do not grieve alone.

As one province, as one community, we will reclaim from fear and grief the spirit that is ours - one of friendship, kindness, caring and bravery and will fill our space with love, hope and resilience.

This is OUR Nova Scotia.  #NovaScotiaStrong

COVID-19 and CFNS

Needless to say, we are in challenging times. The speed with which the COVID 19 crisis has changed daily life in our country is difficult to process. We have had to adjust how we work, how we spend time with family and friends and how we care for our community. At CFNS, we have strived to be responsive to these changes. We have implemented remote working solutions, allowing our team members to be fully operational to serve our community while remaining safe and compliant with directives from government officials. We have implemented virtual meeting schedules for our team members with each other and key partners. We have been in regular contact with our investment manager at Jarislowsky Fraser to ensure that all care is being taken to manage our fund through these challenging times in the market. We continue to work with our fundholders, donors and partners to facilitate disbursements to ensure that regular grant commitments are met.

We are working to keep the ship upright in these tumultuous waters, but we believe there is an opportunity to do much more than that. Not only are we committed to pressing forward with as many of our new, proactive programs and projects started before the crisis as possible, but we are also exploring innovative and collaborative opportunities to assist our communities by looking to other partners and resources to allow for a bigger and bolder response to this crisis.

Ultimately, our mission is to continue to serve our province. Our funds provide a key opportunity for philanthropy that is so needed at this time and we will be there for our fundholders to allow them to fuel response and recovery across our province.

There are so many ways that we can support each other and our communities at this time. If you would like to explore how you can contribute to your community during this crisis, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for assistance and ideas. These are indeed challenging times. But there are also the times in which we are needed most. We will strive to be a valuable and impactful servant of our communities through this crisis and beyond.

Mikmaq Sign

We would like to acknowledge that the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia is situated in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) people first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with the surrender of lands and resources but in fact, recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
